FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When will you begin accepting submissions for the WATER: TAKE 1 Online Short Film Contest?
Fall of 2016. The 5th Annual WATER: TAKE 1 Online Short Film Festival will officially re-open for submissions on September 21st, 2016. You can submit anytime up to our stated deadline of Wednesday, December 14th, 2016, 11:59 pm, Pacific Standard Time.
What is due to WATER: TAKE 1 by the deadline?
You must have completed your online application form and uploaded your film directly at www.watertake1.com. You must check off all the required fields in order to successfully complete your submission. You will know that your film has been submitted successfully when you see it posted on our website. It takes five business days between the time you upload and the time we review your submission for copyright clearances and acceptability. Please do not contact us with questions or queries until five business days have passed.
iThentic is an online production and distribution platform. iThentic is hosting and managing the web platform and offering its distribution services to films submitted to WATER: TAKE 1. You can learn more about iThentic and its license agreement at www.ithentic.com.
What if my short piece is slightly longer than five minutes?
Unfortunately, we cannot exceed the five-minute time limit. If we receive a work longer than five minutes, we will only review and evaluate the first five minutes and nothing more. You can however re-edit your film to fit our running time criteria and we will be happy to consider it.
What if my short piece was submitted to another festival this year?
We love premieres – but we will accept your film if it has already screened in other festivals. Also note, however, that your film can be viewed online as soon as it is accepted into Water: Take 1 and is considered to be part of the festival at that point.
Does it matter if my short piece has played elsewhere?
No, but if the piece is currently available to view on the Internet, then we would like for you to tell us where it is for our records.
What kind of awards will there be?
One grand prize of $1500 (USD), one Audience Choice Award, an IPad (16 GB, WiFi only), one Best Student Short Film Award, a GoPro Camera and a Ventura Vision Award, $500 and promotional recognition through a spotlight on CapsTV. We may also add awards depending on our theme for the current year.
How many finalists will there be?
There will be 10 finalists for the Jury Awarded Grand Prize.
